The Project Advisory Committee (PAC)

The Project Advisory Committee (PAC) evaluates the proposals for Transnational Access to the facilities of the EFNUDAT Consortium.
The role of the PAC in the evaluation of the experiments is:

The PAC is composed of the EFNUDAT Scientific Coordinator (chair), the Project Coordinator (Secretary), and of 5 international experts, chosen for their competence in the nuclear data field. In order to ensure the coverage of the whole experimental spectrum, the five external experts were chosen as follows:

The Transnational Access Coordinator, the Networking Activities Coordinator and the Research Activities Coordinator contribute to the PAC meetings as advisors.

The present members of the PAC are:

Franz-Josef HAMBSCH IRMM Geel, Belgium (chairman)
Gerard BARREAU CENBG Bordeaux, France (secretary)
Frank GUNSING CEA Saclay, France
Robert JACQMIN CEA Cadarache, France
Arjan KONING NRG Petten, The Netherlands
Alberto MENGONI IAEA Vienna, Austria
Jean-Pierre MEULDERS UCL Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium
Jan BLOMGREN UU-TSL Uppsala, Sweden (advisor)
Eckart GROSSE FZD Rossendorf, Germany (advisor)
Wim MONDELAERS IRMM Geel, Belgium (advisor)

The PAC follows a procedure in three steps:

  1. A selection of the experiments is made in accordance with the following criteria:
    • priority for waste transmutation or GenIV systems,
    • feasibility and quality of nuclear data that can be obtained.
The PAC will rank the proposals and indicate which experiments will be supported. For the supported experiments the PAC can give recommendations on possible improvements, collaborations and on integration of complementary measurement capabilities.

  2. For each supported experiment the PAC chooses the best-suited facility. Criteria for the selection of the facility are, in order of importance:
    • best match between facility and experiment,
    • availability of beam time (the PAC can propose transfer of an experiment if another facility is adequate to take over from an over-subscribed facility),
    • value-for-money: in case of two facilities providing the same quality for a certain experiment, the PAC may choose the facility with the lowest burden to the EFNUDAT budget.

  3. The PAC defines the financial limits of the user support (travel, accommodation and subsistence).
