Support of the user groups
Users who are granted access will obtain, free of charge, beam time at the designated facility and at the best suited experimental set-up (to be discussed with the local contact). Access offered to the external users will also include:
- financial support for travel, accommodation and subsistence (within the limits defined by the PAC), according to the EFNUDAT reimbursement rules.
- limited scientific and technical support during the preparation and execution of the experiment (dependent on the rules applicable at the visited facility)
- limited administrative and logistic support (dependent on the rules applicable at the visited facility)
- training for new users (if necessary)
If an experiment is allocated by the PAC to a facility, a local senior scientific officer will be designated as the local scientific contact. He will be the first contact point during the preparation period and he will be in charge of the external users during their whole measurement period. He will introduce the users to all facility aspects. He functions as a liaison with the machine operators and with the administration and technical service of the institute.
The user group leader must discuss in advance all practical aspects with the local contact:
- the schedule of the experiment.
- the experimental equipment to be used. If users wish to use complex in-house equipment, they must collaborate closely with an in-house staff scientist (preferentially the local scientific contact) who is familiar with this equipment. Such a procedure has to be indicated in the proposal and should be coordinated already a few weeks before the scheduled beam time.
- site access conditions and user training (if applicable).
- possible on-site technical support from laboratories and workshops for small mechanical and electronic work (preparing, setting up and dismantling measurement equipment, special sample handling and mounting).
- access to standard office services (telephone, fax, internet services) and meeting rooms, library and access to the restaurant (if available).
- lodging and contacts with local administration (if needed).
